Online and Offline Pickling of Krakatau Steel and OSAKA STEEL Projects in Cilego

PT. Zefa Valindo Jaya was entrusted with the execution of the Pickling project for the KNSS-GAPL and OSAKA STEEL projects, both located in the Krakatau Steel Industrial Estate in Cilegon. The pickling work began in May 2016, continued in August 2016, and was scheduled for completion in January 2017. The work team was divided into two groups: one for online operations (referred to as the online team) and the other for offline operations (referred to as the offline team).

Both projects were carried out within a similar timeframe at Osaka Steel and KNSS, both located in the same industrial estate of Krakatau Steel in Cilegon.

The offline team performed their work at a temporary workshop directly at the project site, while the online team worked directly onsite on pre-installed (erected) pipelines in the field. Although the online work was slightly more complex, it was successfully executed thanks to the high professionalism of the work team.

The pickling process is essential to remove various contaminants such as soil, rust, slag, and dirt from the inner surfaces of the fabricated (spooled) pipelines. This is intended to prevent issues or disruptions caused by corrosion and other debris inside the pipelines during operational use.
