A pre-filter, also known as a coarse filter, is an air filter typically used in the initial filtration stage of an AHU (Air Conditioning Unit) air filtration system. The pre-filter traps large, coarse particles such as dust, hair, insects, sand, and other debris, preventing them from entering the main filtration system (e.g., a HEPA filter). This protects the primary filter from clogging prematurely, extending its lifespan and efficiency. By protecting the primary filter, the need for replacement or cleaning is reduced, which can save costs.

A disposable pre-filter is a primary filter that is disposable. This filter is most commonly used due to its economical price. The disposable filter frame is made of cardboard or duplex cardboard with a laminate on the outside. Disposable pre-filters offer several advantages: practicality and ease of use and maintenance, and a lighter filter, making installation quicker and easier. Disposable pre-filters can be used in HVAC systems, AHU systems, and gas turbines. They are available in standard sizes with thin, thick, and custom sizes.
